Marvel teases superheroes for a new version of Disney Infinity

Posting a short video on their YouTube account today, Marvel has teased their catalogue of superheroes for a new version of Disney Infinity.

In February we reported that Disney Interactive had layed off several hundred staff despite Disney Infinity selling three million units since launch and contributing to a $16 million USD in operating income since August 2013. The Wall Street Journal reported the layoffs as well as speculating that Star Wars and Marvel characters would soon appear in Infinity.

While it’s certainly great to have some confirmation of Marvel characters, what’s more interesting is the “2.0 Edition” notation in the top right corner at the end of the trailer. What exactly this means is unclear at this stage, but it could be an updated version for current-gen consoles or it could be a range of DLC. We’ll have to wait and see.

There are no time frames at this point for when we might see Marvel characters added into the mix or indeed which characters will appear. However, since the the trailer is titled “Get Ready to Assemble” we’re fairly confident we’ll see The Avengers sooner, rather than later.

Disney Infinity is available now for 3DS, PC, PS3, Wii, Wii U and Xbox 360.
