Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash features online multiplayer; supports amiibo

Nintendo announced today that Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash will feature online multiplayer and include amiibo support when it launches later this year.

It was also revealed that Super Mario Galaxy’s Rosalina will make her debut in the series as a playable character. Using amiibo in Ultra Smash will give players an AI doubles partner which will gain experience and learn to play better over time, much like Smash Bros.. Compatible amiibo include Bowser, Donkey Kong, Luigi, Mario, Peach, Rosalina, Toad, Wario, Yarn Yoshi and Yoshi.

Local and online multiplayer was also confirmed and will support up to four players. Nintendo has also announced that anyone who purchases Ultra Smash from the eShop in its first four weeks on sale will receive a download code for the N64’s Mario Tennis on Wii U Virtual Console.

Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash will be available for Wii U from 21 November.
