Kemuri is a yokai-focused action game from Ghostwire Tokyo’s Ikumi Nakamura

Kemuri was today announced at Sony’s State of Play, a “Yokai Possession Action Game” coming from Ghostwire Tokyo‘s Ikumi Nakamura.

“Welcome to Kemuri City — the city closest to the afterlife, where reality and the other side have never quite stayed separate,” reads a description attached to the a gameplay trailer.

“As a Yokai Hunter, use the Fox Window to reveal what others cannot see, form contracts with the yokai you encounter, and wear their power as Possession Apparel. Your appearance, your movement, your way of fighting — everything changes.”

Nakamura worked on Tango Gameworks’ The Evil Within 2 and Ghostwire Tokyo, leaving the latter in mid-development. She became internet famous taking to Bethesda’s E3 2019 stage to detail the game.

At any rate, Nakamura’s now with Unseen, the developer of Kemuri.

Expect Kemuri on PS5 in 2027.
