Hulk Hogan fired from the WWE, removed from WWE 2K16

Professional wrestler Hulk Hogan has been fired by the WWE following reports of extreme racism captured on video tape.

In quotes gathered by the National Enquirer and Radar Online, said tape has Hogan complaining about his daughter, Brooke Hogan, as well as the African-American man she was dating. Hogan called the man a “nigger”, adding “I am a racist, to a point.”

As a result, Hogan’s been dropped.

“WWE terminated its contract with Terry Bollea (aka Hulk Hogan),” the WWE said to the National Enquirer. “WWE is committed to embracing and celebrating individuals from all backgrounds as demonstrated by the diversity of our employees, performers and fans worldwide.”

Moreover, the WWE has erased Hogan from its website, with his biography page now stating, “You are not authorised to access this page”. Hogan has been removed from the WWE Hall of Fame and his merchandise is no longer carried in the WWE Shop.

On the video game front, 2K confirmed that Hogan will no longer appear in WWE 2K16.

“We are highly respectful of the way that our partners choose to run their business and manage our partnerships accordingly,” a 2K spokesperson confirmed. “We can confirm that Hulk Hogan will not appear in WWE 2K16.”

Hogan offered up an apology following today’s events.

“Eight years ago I used offensive language during a conversation,” Hogan said. “It was unacceptable for me to have used that offensive language; there is no excuse for it; and I apologize for having done it.”

“This is not who I am. I believe very strongly that every person in the world is important and should not be treated differently based on race, gender, orientation, religious beliefs or otherwise,” Hogan asserted. “I am disappointed with myself that I used language that is offensive and inconsistent with my own beliefs.”
