Huge Splatoon 2 content drop coming later this week

A huge Splatoon 2 content drop is coming later this week, Nintendo has recently advised.

Available from 25 November, the update offers a new map, MakoMart straight away. Three more maps — Shellendoft Institute plus the original Splatoon’s Walleye Warehouse and Arowana Mall — will be added at a later date.

Also on 25 November, the game’s level cap will be increased from 50 to 99. Players will be able to Prestige, resetting themselves back to level 1 after hitting level 99. The Prestige will be identified with a special star.

Next, the Salmonid Smokeyard stage will be added to Salmon Run on the same date, complete with a wide gap on a beach separating two upper platforms. Nintendo advised that teamwork will be key on the new map.

Nintendo hasn’t forgotten about amiibo. “Tapping a compatible amiibo figure after the update will let players take and share photos in preset locations in Battle Stages, in addition to being able to take photos in Inkopolis Square,” the publisher advised. “Players can also add fun filters to their images.”

Finally, the same update will add more than 140 pieces of gear. Gear will also be able to be swapped between battles without exiting to the lobby.

Another, mid-December update was also detailed, bringing Clam Blitz to the game.

“In Clam Blitz, competing Inklings are tasked with collecting clams scattered around the stage. After one is picked up, the clam follows the player. The objective is to throw the clam into the basket near the opponent’s base, and the first team to score 100 points wins,” Nintendo advised.

Splatoon 2 is available now on Nintendo Switch.
