Gran Turismo 7 increases in-game rewards after fan backlash

A one-time credit payout is coming soon, and the ability to sell cars later.

Gran Turismo 7 developer Polyphony Digital has responded to fan backlash over changes to the ways in which in-game currency was earned in a recent update.

As we’ve detailed previously, many believe the changes were an attempt to push players into in-game microtransactions where real-world money could be used to purchase cars.

“The patch update previously deployed was intended to rectify an issue with inconsistent reward payouts within a part of the World Circuit Events. But, to re-establish the intended equilibrium and provide more accurate rewards based on time investment and completion, it was necessary to recalculate the rewards system as a whole,” Kazunori Yamauchi wrote on the PlayStation Blog.

“To improve the player experience, we will be rolling out a considerable patch in the beginning of April. The number of events will be increased, and we will reestablish the reward system with greater balance throughout the game to benefit all players.”

The patch will include an increase to rewards in the latter half of World Circuits, additional high rewards for clearing the Circuit Experience in all Gold/Bronze results, increased rewards in online races, an increase to the upper limit of non-paid credits in player wallets, and an increased amount of Used and Legend cars in the game’s economy.

Those who owned Gran Turismo 7 on PS4 or PS5 before 25 March at 1.00 am PST and who log in to the game between now and 1.00 am PDT on 25 April will also receive a one-time payout of 1 million Cr.

Moreover, Yamauchi also detailed long-term changes coming to the game, including the ability to sell cars and increased limited time rewards. His update doesn’t address the pricing of vehicles; current pricing means some vehicles still cost upwards of $59.90 AUD using real-world money. Moreover, Gran Turismo 7 is also employing dynamically priced cars through a partnership between developer Polyphony Digital and “automotive enthusiast brand” Hagerty.

Gran Turismo 7 is currently available on PS4 and PS5.
