Game Workers Unite wants Activision CEO Kotick fired

Game developer union movement Game Workers Unite wants Activision CEO Bobby Kotick fired in the wake of 800 layoffs at the company, and has started a petition to try to get it done.

Activision Blizzard’s Kotick said, “while our financial results for 2018 were the best in our history, we didn’t realize our full potential,” at the same time laying off 8% of the company’s workforce. In response, Game Workers Unite has started a petition to get Kotick removed from his own position.

“Upending 800 workers’ lives while raking in millions in bonuses for you and your c-suite buddies isn’t leadership, it’s theft,” Game Workers Unite wrote on the petition’s landing page. “We, the workers of Activision and their friends, have had enough. Join us in saying that it’s time to [fire Bobby Kotick].”

At the time of writing, 583 of 600 signatures had been acquired, though we’re likely to believe that target number will continue to increase as more people are made aware of the cause.
