Friday the 13th game in development, due in October

EGM reports a game based on the Friday the 13th series of slasher films is currently in development and due for release in October 2015. Friday the 13th will feature franchise villain Jason Voorhees in his first solo gaming outing since Friday the 13th on NES in 1989.

According to EGM, this new game will feature Evolve-style asymmetrical multiplayer in which a group of survivors will face off against the unrelenting Jason who is in turn player controlled.

The game’s release in October will coincide with the launch of a new television series set in the Friday the 13th universe in addition to the 13th film in the series. Franchise creator Sean S. Cunningham spoke with EGM and revealed “With a new television series on the horizon and plans announced for the thirteenth installment of the film franchise, we felt the timing was right to finally explore Jason, Camp Crystal Lake, and the rest of the Friday the 13th story in interactive form. We have some exciting new ideas for a game that supplies plenty of replay value, while delivering the kinds of thrills and scares that fans of the franchise have come to expect.”

Tentatively titled Friday the 13th, the game is due out in October 2015 for multiple platforms. Exact details are, as yet, unknown.
