Final Fantasy: World Wide Words is a typing based spin-off for smartphones

Famitsu — translated by Siliconera — has revealed the latest in a long line of Final Fantasy spin off games. Dubbed World Wide Words, this latest game is a little different to previous spin-offs.

According to Siliconera’s translation the game will be a “text-input battle RPG” which means fighting enemies by typing words as they appear on screen. Think Typing of the Dead or Learn with Pokémon: Typing Adventurebut Final Fantasy themed.

Details on the game are few and far between at this stage, but from the images released so far it’s clear the aesthetic is borrowed from Theatrhythm. World Wide Words is slated for release on Android and iOS in Japan, but there’s no word on if a western release is in the pipeline.

Final Fantasy: World Wide Words will be available in Japan on 16 September for Android with an iOS to follow shortly thereafter.
