Evil Dead Rise will be streamed, skipping most cinemas

Evil Dead Rise is the next feature film in the fabled franchise, heading straight to HBO Max and skipping most theatres.

The film will be executive produced by Evil Dead director Sam Raimi and former series protagonist Bruce Campbell (Ash Williams), and was written by Lee Cronin (The Hole in the Ground).

Evil Dead Rise will be a sequel to the series’ original trilogy, following sisters played by Alyssa Sutherland and Lily Sullivan.

“I’m thrilled to bring Evil Dead back to its original home at New Line 40 years after the release of the first film,” Sam Raimi said of Rise to Variety. “The company’s history as pioneers of horror speaks for itself. I’m equally excited to be working with Lee Cronin, whose gifts as a storyteller make him the ideal filmmaker to continue the enduring legacy of the franchise.”

In the USA, Evil Dead Rise will be streamed via HBO Max; the title will get limited theatrical releases in the UK and France. Here in Australia, it’s still unclear as to how fans will be able to watch the film.

On the video game front, Evil Dead The Game is expected later this year on Windows PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series S & X, PS4 and PS5.
