Evidence mounts that Overwatch is coming to consoles

It looks more and more likely that Blizzard’s team-based shooter Overwatch will make its way to current-gen consoles after players found information hidden in Battle.net’s source code.

A string of text — now removed from the site — read “Overwatch is Blizzard’s team-shooter for PC and consoles” while Eurogamer notes that “The PC version’s user interface seems particularly console friendly. Each character has only a handful of abilities, which map easily to a controller.” Players in the beta also point to the title’s gamepad support as strong evidence.

Overpwn also discovered two authentication tickets in the code for consoles;

  • INITIAL_PSN_OR_XBL_AUTH
  • WAITING_FOR_PSN_OR_XBL_AUTH

While Blizzard hasn’t announced Overwatch as coming to consoles, it looks like it may happen. It’s currently in closed beta and will launch for PC in 2016.
