Elite Dangerous Odyssey PC Alpha kicks off today

Surprise!

The Elite Dangerous Odyssey PC Alpha begins today, developer Frontier has proclaimed.

Available to Lifetime Expansion Pass holders and those who’ve pre-ordered the Odyssey Deluxe Alpha expansion pack, there are four main phases of the exercise.

Phase 1 begins today and focuses on “Odyssey’s core systems and network features,” Frontier confirmed. In it, all Commanders will be given a new character grouped within a single star system to “maximize player interaction.” Spaceships will not be accessible, but in-system travel will be possible with a new Apex Interstellar feature.

Phase 2 will introduce Odyssey‘s first-person combat experience, in which Commanders will gain access to the Manticore Dominator combat suit alongside faction conflicts.

Next comes Phase 3, in which the playable bubble will be expanded to 50 light years. It also includes unexplored plants and the Supratech Artemis explorer suit.

Finally, Phase 4 tests compatibilty. where Commanders can access their own characters and “test the inclusion of existing features in the main game, like Fleet Carriers, ship-launched Fighters and SRVs.”

Elite Dangerous: Odyssey will head to Windows PC, Xbox One and PS4 later this year.
