Earthbound creator Shigesato Itoi has ruled out the possibility of a sequel to Mother 3, stating that it would be “totally impossible”.
Speaking to Game Watch Impress (via Kotaku) Itoi likened game development to the music industry. “Among big-time popstars, if they, you know, put out ten albums, around the fourth album, they can’t make very good songs,” he said. “The albums sell, but everyone at the concerts wants to hear songs from those first three albums. Everyone.”
It seems it’s a good thing the existing Earthbound games are so good as fans may just have to make do with them for some time.
