E3 2023 cancelled after major publishers decide to do their own thing

E3 2023 has been cancelled following announcements by several major publishers that have stated they’ll be doing their own livestreams instead.

Sources sent IGN an email from governing body, the Electronic Software Association, which says that while E3 “remains a beloved event and brand” this year’s attempt “simply did not garner the sustained interest necessary to execute it in a way that would showcase the size, strength, and impact of our industry.”

Organiser ReedPop followed up on the report with an official statement.

“This was a difficult decision because of all the effort we and our partners put toward making this event happen, but we had to do what’s right for the industry and what’s right for E3,” said ReedPop’s Kyle Marsden-Kish.

“We appreciate and understand that interested companies wouldn’t have playable demos ready and that resourcing challenges made being at E3 this summer an obstacle they couldn’t overcome,” Marsden-Kish continued. “For those who did commit to E3 2023, we’re sorry we can’t put on the showcase you deserve and that you’ve come to expect from ReedPop’s event experiences.”

Earlier this week, Ubisoft said it would also be skipping E3 2023, joining the likes of Nintendo and Microsoft.

E3 2023 was meant to take place over 13-16 June in Los Angeles. Geoff Keighley’s competing Summer Game Fest is still on track for livestreamed and in-person events.
