Driveclub PlayStation Plus edition is almost here

Polygon is reporting that the Driveclub PS Plus edition, the long promised free version of the troubled PS4 racing game, has accidentally been released to the PS Store. While the game has since been removed Driveclub developers Evolution Studios has addressed the matter on Facebook, saying that the release will be “soon” once the server situation is stable.

Driveclub was one of many games that had a troubled launch in late 2014 alongside Halo: The Master Chief Collection and Assassin’s Creed: Unity. Online functionality such as leaderboards and clubs took weeks to work properly while the free edition was delayed indefinitely. The game has been in a stable state for several months now and new tracks and weather effects have been added, but for many the damage was done.

The free edition for PS Plus members was a key selling point for Sony’s premium PlayStation service, but the announcement has been plagued by trouble. Firstly the amount of game available for free was much less than was hoped for, then the troubled launch saw this now more than six month delay. Those patiently PS Plus subscribers waiting to experience Driveclub will soon get their chance, it seems, and another black mark that has hung over Sony this year will be rubbed out.
