The Division 2 gets battle pass, seasons with Warlords of New York DLC

Massive Studios this morning announced Warlords of New York, the first major DLC for The Division 2. With it comes news of both a battle pass and a season structure similar to games like Destiny 2.

Each season will feature its own narrative, a calendar of activities as well as “new ways to play”.

These seasons will feature their own cosmetics, gear and skill mods that will be exclusive to that season, as well as a seasonal end game comprised of season ranks and a new league structure.

It’s unsurprising that Massive are throwing a battle pass into the game seeing as nearly every online AAA title has one these days.

Stevivor had a chance to ask Massive Producer Lionel Le Dain why The Division 2 needed a battle pass the answer was simple – a chance to offer players more cosmetics.

“You know we exclude everything that is gameplay (related), it’s only cosmetics,” Le Dain said. “You’re basically going to have more cosmetic rewards; that’s pretty much it.”

We also asked Le Dain if cosmetic caches would be replaced by the battle pass, which he was quick to deny.

While a release date for Warlords of New York wasn’t confirmed during the preview session, Xbox APIs suggest it will be available from 3 March 2020. The Division 2 is currently available on Windows PC, Xbox One and PS4; while a Stadia release is planned for later in March.
