Destiny 2 PC bans have already hit 400 players [UPDATE]

Update: Bungie has updated its statement, saying some bans were actually made in error.

Bungie has advised it “identified a group of players who were banned in error” and have since overturned those bans.

While around 400 players were initially banned, Bungie didn’t detail numbers on how many are now able to play again.

Original story: Destiny 2 PC bans have already been issued to around 400 players within the game’s first 24 hours.

Many players took to Bungie’s forums to cry foul, saying they were banned for simple overlay apps that monitor PC temperature, as an example.

Bungie has released a statement saying those claims are simply untrue.

The bans were issued to those who were “using tools that pose a threat to the shared ecosystem of the game,” Bungie detailed.

“We did not and will not issue any bans for the use of overlays or performance tools,” the statement continued. “[This] includes Discord, Xsplit, OBS, RTSS, etc.”

PC project lead, David Shaw, took to Twitter to also address the issue.

Programs like Nvidia’s Shadowplay and AMD’s ReLive are supported and will not result in a ban. Though, if ever in doubt, it’s a better idea to turn your side-app of choice off.

Destiny 2 is now available on Windows PC, Xbox One and PS4.
