Oof.
Dark Souls PC servers have been offline for more than 100 days, following the discovery of an exploit that could allow an invader to run code on another’s PC.
Publisher Bandai Namco shut down Dark Souls‘ PC servers in response to the discovery, though a fix has not yet been deployed. The lack of servers means that those on PC can not play competitively or cooperatively with another player.
Back in February of this year, Bandai Namco said its priority was to ensure the successful launch of Elden Ring, which debuted on 25 February 2022.
“Due to the time required to set up proper testing environments, online services for the Dark Souls series on PC will not resume until after the release of Elden Ring,” the franchise’s official Twitter account stated earlier in the year.
While I’m not playing Dark Souls 1-3 on PC, I can certainly feel the pain of those that are; a successful run through Elden Ring — my first ever From Software completion — gave me an itch to scratch. I’ve already completed Dark Souls Remastered on Xbox Series X since. I’ve also done so, I add, with the help of other players through summoning, something those on PC cannot presently do.
We’ve asked Bandai Namco for comment on the matter.
Elden Ring is now available on Windows PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series S & X, PS4 and PS5. We’ve previously reviewed Dark Souls 3 here.
