Boston’s Patrice Bergeron is the cover star of NHL 15

At the NHL Awards today, the Boston Bruins’ Patrice Bergeron was crowned cover star of NHL 15.

The official announcement was accidentally ruined by banner ads on NHL.com, plus Bergeron’s own admission to several news outlets.

You can see Bergeron in the ads, below:

Amusingly, in a contest that took place almost entirely on the internet, Bergeron — a defenceman without a Twitter account, let alone followers — took down the Montreal Canadiens’ P.K. Subban, a man with over 450,000 Twitter followers.

“I have fond memories of the game and I never thought I would find myself on the cover one day,” Bergeron said to Canadian site RDS about the cover win. “This is really special.”

Bergeron becomes the first Bruin to grace the cover of an NHL game in 20 years, with Bruin Andy Moog last sharing the cover with Tomas Sandstrom on NHL 94.
