Blizzard pays tribute to deceased Diablo III artist in latest update

The latest update to Diablo III currently available on the public test realm features a game changing artifact, a predecessor of sorts to the powerful Horadric Cube from Diablo II. Not only is this a huge gameplay change, but it is also a touching tribute to a Blizzard artist who passed away last year after a battle with cancer, Kevin Kanai Griffith.

You can find the full story behind Kanai’s Cube and the powers it holds over in a detailed blog post on Battle.net. It changes the way item customisation is handled in Diablo III, extracting powers from items that can then be used in further customisation of your character.

Kanai’s Cube is the main feature in Patch 2.3.0 for Diablo III, now available for PC users in the public test realm.
