Blizzard owns any custom game made in Warcraft 3 Reforged

Blizzard has changed its Custom Game Acceptable Use Policy so that any custom game made in Warcraft 3 Reforged — or any other Blizzard game — becomes its property.

The amended Blizzard Custom Game Acceptable Use Policy was first noticed by PC Gamer and gives Blizzard ownership of any and all custom or user-made games and mods.

“Custom Games are and shall remain the sole and exclusive property of Blizzard,” it reads. “Without limiting the foregoing, you hereby assign to Blizzard all of your rights, title, and interest in and to all Custom Games, including but not limited to any copyrights in the content of any Custom Games.”

This applies to any custom game or mod created inside any Blizzard game and also allows the developer the right to shut down any attempt to break mods off into a standalone version of the game (see Dota 2).

Warcraft 3 Reforged was recently released to Windows PC and Mac.
