Battlefield 2042 cross-play will be split by generation

Sorry, PS4 and Xbox One users.

Battlefield 2042 will support cross-play, but said feature will be split by console generations.

DICE today confirmed it is testing cross-play and plans to implement the feature between one set on PC, Xbox Series S & X and PS5, and another on Xbox One and PS4.

The limitation likely comes as a result of tweaked maps and player counts on last-gen systems.

DICE also confirmed it’s working on cross-progression between platforms.

“Alongside cross-play we’re also building cross-progression and cross-commerce for Battlefield 2042, which will be shared across all platforms and travel with you wherever you go,” a blog post reads. “For example, your unlocked progress and purchases in your PlayStation copy of the game will carry over onto the Xbox or PC version, and vice versa.”

Battlefield 2042 heads to PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, PS4 and PS5 from 15 October.
