Avatar Frontiers of Pandora physical version needs internet to install

An online requirement was detailed on the game's box art.

Avatar Frontiers of Pandora’s physical version needs an online internet connection to install, Ubisoft has detailed via the game’s box art and new statement.

According to Ubisoft, a mandatory internet connection is needed to install the game’s day one patch; following that, a user can be disconnected and play their physical copy of Frontiers of Pandora offline.

“The Day 1 patch is mandatory to start playing the game, therefore a one-time internet connection is required,” reads a statement. “After that, you will be able to play the game offline and enjoy the Western Frontier without an internet connection. If you want to team up in co-op, an internet connection is required.”

The requirement also stopped those who got the game earlier than intended from playing early, as noted on Reddit.

“This sucks, I’m usually not one of those save old games people, but this literally will not work when the server goes down since the patch won’t be there and if you change the date it won’t fix it,” lamented one user when the need for an internet connection was discovered.

Another user contradicted the report.

“There’s loads of people (myself included) who have had no issues installing and playing the game since it arrived on the 5th, without having to try and fool the installer with date hacks,” they wrote. “So all of this stuff about it not working offline could just be bollocks!”

That particular point no longer matters, as Frontiers of Pandora is now available on all platforms. What is important is that need for an internet connection to actually play, so keep that in mind.

“This one’s for diehard fans of Avatar or Far Cry, and even then might be a tough sell,” I wrote in my review of the title. “Like the Avatar films, this is textbook average entertainment; it won’t disappoint, but it certainly won’t excite. If you’ve got a pile of shame like I do, there’s certainly better ways to spend your time.”

Avatar Frontiers of Pandora is now available on Windows PC, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X and PS5.
