There are almost 1,000 items on Amazon Australia right now

Amazon Australia was rumoured to go live today, and indeed it has — though the retailer’s website is basically a nightmare to use at this very moment.

As Amazon gears up for an official Aussie release, you can head to this link to see the items already available. At the time of writing, there are 955 items grouped under the site’s “Everything Else” category. Browsing works better than searching, as the latter tends to leverage the Amazon Kindle Store.

Yesterday, we were made aware of an email sent to Amazon Australia’s partners that advised the site would “start an internal testing phase with a small number of customers” — with a lack of real organisation, that testing phase looks to have kicked off.

We’ll keep you informed as more is known about Amazon Australia and proper availability.

With thanks to our friends at Finder.com.au.
