Another blow to Konami as Fox Engine lead moves to Bandai Namco Studios

Former Konami Worldwide Technology Director Julien Merceron has left the publisher for a position at Bandai Namco Studios.

Merceron started at Konami in 2013 and was the lead on the publisher’s Fox Engine, used in titles like PES 2016 and Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.

“I’m extremely excited to be given an opportunity to make a difference within the amazing Bandai Namco Group, so well-known for its iconic IPs,” Merceron said in a press release today. “I’m looking forward to empower the teams I’ll be working with and accelerate growth, innovation and creativity. The reach of this group goes well beyond games, it is a true Multimedia and Entertainment Group, so I know I will learn a lot too!

“Working with so many experienced people and friends and focusing on a wider range of entertainment forms is the chance of a lifetime! Within Bandai Namco Studios, there is a true opportunity to have a worldwide reach with Original Content.”

Konami’s top talent seems to be leaving the publisher at an alarming rate. Most notably, Hideo Kojima confirmed he’d left Konami to begin work on a PS4 console-exclusive title with Sony.
