Resident Evil 4 Puzzles Guide: Here’s your all-in-one cheat sheet

Resident Evil 4 is now available and this puzzles guide will give you a easy access to speeding through the game or getting through it in the first place.

There are heavy spoilers from this point forward in the form of chronological puzzle descriptions and solutions. Continue at your own peril!

Resident Evil 4 Village Chief’s Manor marble puzzle

First, the sequence to obtain the marble — which is in the downstairs, locked cupboard — is crop, pig, baby.

With marble in hand, rotate it to match this symbol.

You can get the heads required for this puzzle in whichever order you choose. Regardless, here’s a solution (and if it doesn’t work, use the other one depending on your location).

This one is closest to the mural wall. 10 o’clock, 2 o’clock and 6 o’clock, or thereabouts. See below.

You can get the heads required for this puzzle in whichever order you choose. Regardless, here’s a solution (and if it doesn’t work, use the other one depending on your location).

This one is on the north side of the giant lake. 9 o’clock, 7 o’clock and 5 o’clock, or thereabouts. See below.

As you work around the Lake, you’ll find hexagon pieces as follows: A is beside the Merchant in the Lake area, B is in the Fish Farm, and C is in the Small Cave Shrine.

With them all in tow, you can complete the puzzle in two simple moves in Assisted or Normal.

  1. Bottom left triad (once)
  2. Topmost triad (once)

You can also do the same in five moves in Hardcore or Professional.

  1. Bottom right triad (once)
  2. Bottom right triad (once)
  3. Bottom left triad (once)
  4. Bottom left triad (once)
  5. Topmost triad (once)

The blue dial is easy enough to find, and so too is the lever to access the mechanism. With all parts in place, this is the design you’re after. We found it simple to pick a big shard of each colour and position that single one to get to the following:

In the castle, you’ll come upon rooms with four swords and four slots.

The order is this:

  • Leftmost image: Iron sword
  • Second left image: Golden sword
  • Second right image: Bloodied sword
  • Rightmost image: Rusted sword

Once you’ve found the three lithographs in the room, you want this configuration:

  • Top: Red shield
  • Left: Red helmet
  • Right: Blue sword
  • Bottom: Blue armour

For this one, you just need to match the table settings as designated in the large paintings at the far wall of the room.

  • Ashley: Spoon and fork; knife and knife, no bread, no wine carafe, empty glass

  • Leon: Spoon, fork, fork; knife, knife, knife; bread; wine carafe; empty glass

We’ve had two different answers depending on difficulty.

  • Assisted, Standard: 11:04
  • Hardcore, Professional: 7:00 (VII:XII)

This one’s easy, but nevertheless…

  • Back of rotunda: Full moon lantern
  • Left of rotunda (when facing it): Half moon lantern
  • Right of rotunda (when facing it): Star lantern
