Scorn is out now, and this guide will help you earn its Achievements 001 and 002.
Spoilers obviously continue from this point forward, so read at your own risk!
Still with us? Okay. While the extreme majority of Scorn‘s 12 Achievements are earned through linear play, it throws a curveball at players in that we’ll only be able to earn either the 001 or 002 Achievements over the course of a normal playthrough.
Both Achievements are earned as part of the first puzzle of Act 1, and revolve around a type of moral decision presented with the egg-thing you’ll encounter. We recommend playing through the story as normal and collecting either Achievement in the first place, and then replaying the Act 1 chapter replay point (the very first that the game allows) to mop up your second.
The Achievements correspond to the following actions:
- 001: After freeing the egg-thing from the wall, you’ll need to send it on a rail line to liberate the thing from the egg. It will keep its arm intact and help you with the remaining door puzzle.
- 002: After freeing the egg-thing from the wall, you’ll need to send it on a rail line to destroy it and pick up its arm from whatever remains.
You’ll have to bonk the egg-thing on the head with whatever the bonker is before you perform either of the actions above, so don’t worry about voiding anything at that stage.
With all this in mind, you’ll need to go up to the tall spire in the middle of the puzzle room and align the rail line in two very different ways, depending on the Achievement you’re after. We’ve detailed both paths below; you may need to spin the camera around so the player avatar is standing at the bottom of the tall pillar.
You’ll of course need to go through the puzzle to liberate the egg-thing again, but we found it far easier to do the second time around once we understood what was up.
That’s it. Either one of these Achievements are likely your last, so congrats on 100%ing Scorn.
