Avengers cosmetics divided; you earn some and purchase others

As more information has emerged on Avengers, 2020’s Crystal Dynamics’ take on Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, we’ve learned more about the game’s customisations in gear, skills, and — most importantly of all — cosmetic skins. During our time with studio head Scot Amos, he mentioned that while some character skins would be earned in-game, some would be available through the game’s marketplace.

With expensive cosmetic items a hot topic for many games, we asked Amos to elaborate on just how this would work in next year’s Avengers title. Would gamers be saving up in-game currency for this marketplace, or shelling out real-world cash?

“We haven’t gone into specifics on that just yet,” Amos said. “But yeah, certainly we are keeping them separate, I’ll tell you that much. You can only buy these skins in the store. and you can only earn these skins in the game. That doesn’t cross over.

“You can’t go, ‘Oh, I can play long enough that can earn these.’ Nope, you can only buy these and you can only earn these.”

While the exact specifics are still being planned, it appears we’ll see a clear division between in-game and premium skins next year.

Avengers heads to Windows PC, Xbox One and PS4 on 15 May 2020.
