AO Tennis has been in development for 4-5 years, says Big Ant

The recently announced AO Tennis has been in development for 4-5 years, Big Ant Studios today told Stevivor.

In a conversation held after the game’s announcement, Big Ant’s Ross Symons told Stevivor that AO Tennis has been bubbling in the background for quite some time. At last year’s Australian Open, the developer was granted access to the game’s top “35 or 40” ranked players, including cover star Rafael Nadal, in order to perform 3D scanning.

Symons also confirmed that “a lot of Aussies” were scanned for inclusion into the game, though non-Aussies Nadal and Angelique Kerber share cover star duties.

Symons added that access to Tennis Australia’s shot statistics really helped in development of the game, and that Big Ant’s experience with sports titles would position it as a spiritual successor to the likes of Top Spin or Grand Slam Tennis, as well as a competitor to Tennis World Tour, also available in 2018.

AO Tennis was confirmed today for Xbox One and PS4.
