Sure, Coco Bandicoot is playable in each of Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy‘s three bundled titles, but you’ve got to earn the right first.
It also needs to be said that Coco can’t be swapped out for Crash in every single level — in our experience, Coco can’t take part in boss battles (like Papu Papu or Ripper Roo, as examples) or in specially-themed levels (Crash Bandicoot‘s Hog Wild, as an example). In the same vein, Coco can’t be swapped out for Crash inside Crash Bandicoot: Warped levels that were originally Coco’s.
Got all that? Good. With that said, here’s how to unlock Coco in each of the trilogy’s titles.
After taking care of Papu Papu, Coco’s time machine is a “level” directly below Papu’s shack.
You can use the new area to toggle Coco on and off. When Coco’s toggled on, you can hit R2 to swap between playable characters and play as Crash’s sister.
Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back
You’ll need to progress through the first five worlds in the Warp Zone, then beat Ripper Roo.
After doing this, travel up to the next set of worlds, and you’ll see Coco’s time machine nearby. This can be used to toggle Coco on and off.
When Coco’s toggled on, you can hit R2 to swap between playable characters and play as Crash’s sister.
Crash Bandicoot: Warped
This one’s the easiest — Coco’s unlocked straight from the start. You’ll need to go and interact with her in the main platform before you can turn the toggle off and on.
Once done, you can hit R2 to change playable character. You don’t need to do this to play the levels that were originally Coco’s, of course.
Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy is available now on PS4 and PS4 Pro.
