Stevivor GOTY 2021: Best Xbox

Forza Horizon 5, Psychonauts 2 and Age of Empires 4.

Stevivor’s Game of the Year awards for 2021 are almost complete. Today, we award the Best Xbox game of the year… and this one’s a three-way tie.

While a title like Deathloop was in the running (how confusing is that?), we’ve ultimately stuck with two titles available only on Xbox and PC — Forza Horizon 5 and Age of Empires 4 — alongside the multiplatform Psychonauts 2.

“It’s fun, only structured if you want it to be, and seems to exist purely to make sure you have a good time,” Alice said of Playground Games’ Forza Horizon 5 in her review.

Psychonauts 2 is uplifting and very old-school, a colourful barrage of colours and mish-mashed designs that — most importantly — doesn’t take itself seriously,” I said of Double Fine’s latest. “At the same time, it very much does; it’s hard not to when dealing with the inner workings of the mind.”

“The strategic polish of two decades is on display in Age of Empires 4, both in the history of this series and the pedigree of the developer,” Stuart said in his review of Relic and World’s Edge’s latest.

Our GOTY 2021 awards end in just two days; the full schedule is below.

Congratulations to Microsoft, Playground Games, Double Fine, Relic and World’s Edge for the wins.
