RE7’s dummy finger won’t do anything in the demo until September

Capcom has used its Resident Evil Ambassador program to tell RE7 fans that the dummy finger scrutinised in the game’s demo is indeed a dead end. For now.

The image — seen in part above, and in full below, was emailed to those who’ve signed up for the Ambassador program, full of clues.

“We’ll be posting an official announcement over the usual channels of course, but we wanted to let our Ambassadors know before anyone else,” Capcom said as part of the email blast.

There’s a lot going on in the image:

  • First, the obvious. “The path for now is closed, but patience…” leads most to believe there’s nothing left to do — for now — in the Resident Evil 7 demo. Capcom seems to be telling us to wait until…
  • … September 2016! That’s what’s referenced on the calendar underneath the dummy finger, a coffee mug, Capcom’s note and a key wallet.
  • Moreover, the dummy finger is pointing at what would be 15 September, the opening date of Tokyo Game Show. Coincidence? We doubt it.
  • Many have incorrectly stated the that blood splatter, below the dummy finger and to the right of the key wallet, is square on 28 September. That’s the day of the Raccoon City zombie outbreak as stated inside Resident Evil 3. By the layout of the calendar, that splatter would be sitting on 5 October instead, so it’s likely nothing.
  • Others still are convinced that the coffee mug at the top of the image isn’t simply reflecting the text of Capcom’s message, but something new entirely…

From the image, many believe that the area beyond the phone room in the Dulvey Haunted House’s attic will be accessible in September as part of a second demo, or at the very least an update to the first (watch from 2:25 below). It’s also quite possible that’s when the demo itself will open up to Windows PC and Xbox One.

The demo is currently available to PlayStation Plus subscribers on PS4. We’ll have more on RE7, its demo and that damn dummy finger as it develops.
