343 Industries: Halo Wars 2 shows the franchise’s renewed commitment to PC

Speaking with Stevivor, 343 Industries’ Bonnie Ross said that Halo Wars 2 signifies the franchise’s renewed commitment to PC and its players.

“We want to be really deliberate, and that’s actually why we lead with Halo Wars 2,” Ross said of the franchise and its positioning.

The real-time strategy presents the perfect opportunity to correct past mistakes, with Ross quickly referencing the pedigree of the original Halo Wars — a title that sadly overlooked PCs for an Xbox 360-only release back in 2009.

“Especially coming from Ensemble [Studios] and Age [of Empires] and everything, [fans] were like, ‘come on, guys, give it to us on PC.'”

Those fans finally get their wish, with Halo Wars: Definitive Edition available to play as early as this month to those who pre-order Halo Wars 2 digitally on either PC or Xbox One.

“We felt that it was paying back to the fans that wanted this in the first place, and it’s the right first Halo game,” Ross said of the move.

Halo: Combat Evolved and Halo 2 have also been released on Windows PC in the past.

Halo Wars 2 heads to Windows PC and Xbox One as part of the Xbox Play Anywhere program on 21 February 2017.
