Xbox 360, PS3 work without lag inside Xbox One

Xbox’s Albert Penello said that connecting an Xbox 360 or PS3 to your Xbox One’s HDMI In input “won’t be a great experience” back in September, but we’ve called his bluff.

We hooked up an Xbox 360 and later a PS3 to test it all out, and as you can see, there’s no noticable latency at all.

We haven’t checked this functionality with the Wii U or PS4, but theoretically, it’ll work just as fine. Great news for those of you finding yourselves low on HDMI inputs.

To accomplish what we have, all you need to do is connect an HDMI capable device to the Xbox One’s HDMI In input. Then, it’s just a matter of saying, “Xbox, go to TV”.

The Xbox One will be available in Australia and New Zealand from 22 November. We’ve reviewed the console here today.

UPDATE: We’re seeing that the Wii U might not work the same way as the PS3 and Xbox 360 did into the Xbox One. We never tested the Wii U, and therefore can’t confirm it works lag-free on the Xbox One. We did play an extra hour of Halo 4 on Xbox 360/One and an hour of Beyond: Two Souls on PS3/One, so we can 100% guarantee those two console combinations are lag-free.
