Saints Row Boss Factory Preview: It’s time to customise!

Make your own Boss.

Forgive me, but I’m about to make you feel incredibly old: the first Saints Row game was released way back in August 2006. Big oof right there.

Although initially seen as a typical GTA clone, Saints Row carved out its own fan base by being that little bit more extra in its themes and gameplay. More importantly, the games were, and continue to be, fun.

Fast forward sixteen years and Saints Row is considered to be a successful series by most people’s standards. Sadly, after a consistent new release every two to three years, there hasn’t been a new game for about seven years now. Well, that is all about to change with a new reboot from Volition that’s our gaming rigs on 23 August.

As an appetiser to this release, Volition is giving us something to keep ourselves busy in the form of Boss Factory. The experience is, fundamentally, a customisation tool that lets you create your very own in-game Boss, one that you can save and use in the full release. Although creating your own in-game character isn’t exactly ground-breaking for a video game, the range of customisation options available is quite extensive. Just how much, you ask? Well enough that we at Stevivor here have decided to just see how much fun we can have by creating our own Bosses and sharing them with you (aren’t you lucky!?)

Stupid Sexy Flanders

  • Name: Ned Flanders
  • Role: Store Manager
  • Age: 60

Ned is the kind of man that does everything the Bible says, even the stuff that contradicts the other stuff! When he isn’t being a model Father and loving husband, Ned runs the local convenience store for left-handed accessories, a place where every customer gets a “Hi diddly ho” and their parking validated… even if they didn’t actually shop there.

Ned does have a dark side though. Due to years of bottling up his emotions and grievances, Ned has been known to have a complete mental breakdown and lash out at his friends and family in abusive remarks. This could sadly explain the extremely high staff turnover rate and high number of HR incidents over the years.

Karen

  • Name: Karen Johnson
  • Role: THE MANAGER
  • Age: 39

After countless years of fighting against the injustices that were constantly plaguing our retail systems, Karen knew there was only one way that she could forever rid the world of misleading advertisements and mild inconveniences. Karen became… The Manager! Now on the inside and in control of all the power, Karen spearheads the real problems in the world and does so with an iron fist and fierce determination.

Old habits can die hard though. Whenever she notices a problem in her store she will rant and scream, demanding to see the manager, at this point she waltzes into her office and yells at herself in the mirror.

Arnie

  • Name: Arnold Swertzannaggar
  • Role: Owner and Operator of Gold’s Gym
  • Age: 31

When he is not pumping iron and getting gains, he will be slamming down enough protein that would feed a small nation. A little-known fact, before any new equipment gets utilised into his gym, it is subject to the full Arnie workout. Only if it then passes this stringent test and survives, does it earn its spot on the gym floor.

Everyone who works or has worked for him in the past have all said that Arnie is a loveable, friendly, caring, charismatic, and charming man who would do anything for the well being of his staff and friends. But not one of them could ever understand a single word he has ever said.

Stephen

  • Name: Stephen Wrong
  • Role: Senior Editor of an online publication; you may have heard of it
  • Age: [Redacted]

When he is not scoring the match-winning goal for his local ice hockey team, he’s scoring the latest and greatest video games on his gaming website. Stephen started his own publication with one vision… to write off all his video game purchases on his next tax return legally. Twelve long years later, Stephen reached his goal and now sets to help other young freelancers achieve the greatness that he has now obtained.

Whether it is figuring out the uncanny mysteries of the SEO algorithms or wondering how, anyone, could possibly, use, so many commas, in a single sentence, Stephen crunches written content just as hard as he crunches his opponents up against the hockey boards!
