Xbox pulls out of GDC 2020 over coronavirus concerns

Xbox is the latest big publisher to pull out of GDC 2020, citing concerns over the COVID-19 coronavirus.

“After a close review of guidance by global health authorities and out of an abundance of caution, we’ve made the difficult decision to withdraw from participating at Game Developers Conference 2020 in San Francisco,” a blog post from Microsoft reads.

“The health and safety of players, developers, employees, and our partners around the world is our top priority. Especially as the world is experiencing growing public health risks associated with coronavirus (COVID-19).”

Other activites impacted by the novel coronavirus include EA cancelling its GDC plans, Kojima Productions cancelling its GDC 2020 plans, Overwatch League cancelling Korean matchesSony cancelling planned activities at PAX EastSquare Enix cancelling plans at PAX EastSwitch stocks, the Switch release of The Outer Worlds and the Taipei Game Show.
