Supermassive layoffs impact 90 employees

More layoffs.

Supermassive is the latest studio to lay off staff, with a new report suggesting 90 employees have lost their roles.

Taking to social media, the studio behind The Quarry and the original Until Dawn confirmed that layoffs are happening, but didn’t detail numbers.

“It’s no secret that the games industry is currently facing significant challenges, and unfortunately we aren’t immune to this,” it wrote. “After much deliberation and with deep regret, we are therefore undertaking a reorganisation of Supermassive Games. As a result, we are entering into a period of consultation, which we anticipate will result in the loss of some of our colleagues.”

Bloomberg reports that approximately 150 employees were told their positions were at risk earlier today, with 90 staff expected to actually lose their jobs.

More than 6,000 layoffs have rocked the video games industry in this year alone.
