Super Smash Bros Ultimate: Adventure Mode and Spirit Battles revealed

Super Smash Bros Ultimate has a single-player Adventure Mode called World of Light. Nintendo also announced the introduction of Spirits.

Spirits are other characters from the worlds of Smash Bros fighters. They can be primary spirits that attach to your fighter, like Cappy from Super Mario Odyssey, or secondary support spirits that link to the primary spirit.

Spirits replace collectable trophies, and are similar to assist trophies, but instead of requiring an item to unlock, they begin the match on the battlefield. To unlock new spirits, you’ll need to beat them in a Spirit Battle and then win a round of roulette to actually acquire them.

There are three spirit types (attack, grab and shield) and when active, they’ll help fill your Final Smash meter faster.

This all ties back into Adventure Mode: World of Light, which is a traditional Super Smash Bros solo experience that explains how the spirits came to be.

All we can say after watching the trailer — good luck, Kirby.

Nintendo also announced the final roster of 74 fighters, as well as plans for DLC.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate heads to Nintendo Switch on 7 December.
