Riot Games reveals Ocean Week challenge for Oceanic League of Legends players

Riot Games today announced Ocean Week, a challenge to all Oceanic League of Legends players with the opportunity to unlock some nifty rewards. To get at these rewards players need to earn points by winning games on a set of 12 Ocean Week themed champions. Each win contributes 1 point to the tally, with a monstrous 275,000 points needed to unlock the ultimate goal.

If Oceanic players prove themselves up to the challenge Riot will create an artificial reef themed around either Fizz, Nami or Nautilus and sink it somewhere in the ocean. To top it off, if you contribute at least 3 points towards the total your summoner name will be engraved onto the statue.

“We wanted to make something cool that players could contribute towards,” explains Mirko Gozzo, Country Manager for Riot Games Oceania. “We’ve been working with a marine biologist and an artificial reef company to make sure we create something that is good for the environment and means something to players.”

There are plenty more tiers of rewards too, with players being able to unlock a 4 Win IP boost, Mystery Gifts with a better chance of legendary skins and the return of four aquatic themed legacy skins through their wins.

Ocean Week runs from 23 January until 31 January and points can be earned when playing a PvP game of Blind Pick, Team Builder or Twisted Treeline (when it’s available).
Check out the official page for the full list of rewards and the eligible champions.

Update: You can now vote for the 2 additional champions who’ll be joining the Ocean Week free rotation. Voting ends at 12:01 pm 22 January, so head over to this post and cast your vote.
