Payday 2 goes free to the first 5 million people who install on Steam

Payday 2 is available for free on Steam to the first 5 million people who add it to their library.

As of writing, that number hasn’t been hit yet — you can still install the game by heading to this link, logging in and clicking ‘Install now’.

The history of Payday 2 is as controversial as the nature of the game itself — recently, it’s removed community-angering microtransactions. Despite a narrative heavy on robbery, the game’s also heading to the Nintendo Switch. That version won’t be free.

We reviewed Payday 2 back in 2013.

Steve is the founder of Stevivor, which itself is a combination of ‘Steve’ and ‘Survivor’ -- that made more sense back in 2001 when Steve first arrived in the country and Jeff Probst was up in Queensland. The site started as Steve’s travel blog before transitioning over into video games.

Aside from video games, Steve has interests in hockey and Star Trek, playing the former and helping to cover video games about the latter on TrekMovie.com. By day, Steve works as the communications manager of the peak body representing Victorians as they age.

Steve has recently gathered a career's worth of writing on swright.au, his personal portfolio.
