Overwatch 2 to add self-heals later in 2024

Tank, heal thyself.

Overwatch 2 will make everyone a healer of sorts this year, adding self-heal capabilities to Tank and Damage classes.

“In Season 9, both Tank and Damage heroes will get a modified, tuned-down version of the Support self-healing passive,” reads an update from Activision Blizzard.

“This should give non-Support players more options in terms of sustaining themselves. It should also take some of the pressure off Support players to keep everyone alive since individual players now have more control of their own health pool,” it continued.

“In Overwatch, there is a constant tug of war between the power of a team and the power of an individual hero or player. A change like this shifts that balance a bit. This is something that we are constantly evaluating. We still want Overwatch to be defined by team strategy and mechanics, but we feel this can be pulled back a bit now and possibly more in the future.”

The news was part of a larger update that detailed all that Blizzard is or has done to encourage teamplay within the class-based shooter.

Judging by the comments on the update itself, fans aren’t happy with the idea of self-healing.

“Change is always difficult. Especially when you tinker with core mechanics. Hopefully this won’t backfire,” wrote one player. “Sometimes, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”

“Also, I’m very skeptical about the self-healing passive on tank and DPS,” added another. “I think it’ll enable flankers too much, as they can just evade while their health regens.”

“More nerfs to the supports health regeneration passive? You’re killing Mercy more, when the problem is Baptiste, Ana and Kiriko,” said another.
