This teenager took his copy of Super Smash Bros. Melee to prom

NY Mag recently interviewed Chris Burwell, a high school senior who took his copy of Super Smash Bros. Melee to prom.

“I’m a big fan of the game. There’s a big fan base for Super Smash Bros. Melee specifically, and I’ve been a fan of the game for a long time,” Burwell said. “I saw a couple weeks ago that a guy took his waifu to prom, and I thought, That’s very funny, but I’m not that bad. What else could I do? And I thought I’ll take Melee, because there’s such a big fan base and I’m one of those fans. It felt right. It was the heat of the moment.”

The one hundred or so in attendance thought it was quite amusing, according to Burwell.

“No one’s loyal these days but Melee’s always there for you,” he said. “People were mostly pretty chill with it; they just thought it was funny.”

Burwell made sure to dance with Melee during up-tempo songs.
