Want a more detailed explanation of what’s going on? Easy!

Each of Cuphead‘s worlds have actual bosses to beat (and contracts to secure) alongside Run ‘n Gun missions that provide all-important Coins. Here’s a breakdown of what to expect:

World 1 (Inkwell Isle 1)

  • Bosses: The Root Pack, Goopy Le Grande, Hilda Berg, Cagney Carnation, Ribby and Croaks
  • Run ‘n Guns: Forest Follies, Treetop Trouble

World 2 (Inkwell Isle 2)

  • Bosses: Baroness Von Bon Bon, Beppi the Clown, Djimmi the Great, Grim Matchstick, Wally Warbles
  • Run ‘n Guns: Funfair Fever, Funhouse Frazzle

World 3 (Inkwell Isle 3)

  • Bosses: Rumor Honeybottoms, Captain Brineybeard, Sally Stageplay, Werner Werman, Dr. Kahl’s Robot, Cala Maria, Phantom Express
  • Run ‘n Guns: Perilous Piers, Rugged Ridge

Finale (Inkwell Hell)

  • Bosses: Casino/King Dice (8 possible variations: 3 Drinks, Chip Stack, Cigar, Domino, Monkey and Cymbal, Rabbit in a Hat, Roulette Wheel, Skeleton Horse), The Devil

There are also three Mausoleums in Cuphead — one for each world. Beating those will provide a new Super each.

While you can progress from one world to the next by beating levels on Simple difficulty, you’ll need to beat the bosses on Regular difficulty in order to secure their contracts. You’ll need those contracts to make it to the finale.

It took us around 5-6 hours to beat all the bosses on Simple difficulty. As for Regular difficulty… well, we’re working on that. The game is tough, people.

Good luck!

Cuphead is out today on Windows PC and Xbox One. It’s an Xbox Play Anywhere title, so you can enjoy cross-play on both platforms. We reviewed it here.
