Stevivor GOTY 2021: The runners-up

So close.

Stevivor’s Game of the Year awards for 2021 are done and dusted, but we wanted to finish up the year by throwing the spotlight on the titles that almost made it.

Some of our categories were runaway victories for the titles that won, but here are the titles that came close, almost equally as deserving of an award in the category they were nominated in.

  • Runner-up Best RPG: Yakuza Like a Dragon
  • Runner-up Best Action: Hitman 3 and Guardians of the Galaxy
  • Runner-up Best Indie: The Artful Escape
  • Runner-up Audio: Guardians of the Galaxy
  • Runner-up Narrative: Life is Strange True Colors
  • Runner-up Nintendo: Mario Party Superstars
  • Runner-up Xbox: Halo Infinite (which technically wasn’t a game we could vote for this year but we liked it enough to warrant the nod!)
  • Runner-up PlayStation: Returnal
  • Runner-up Game of the Year: Guardians of the Galaxy and Psychonauts 2

About the author

Steve Wright

Steve's the owner and Editor-in-Chief of Stevivor.com, the country’s leading independent video games outlet. Steve arrived in Australia back in 2001 on what was meant to be a three-month working holiday before deciding to emigrate and, eventually, becoming a citizen.

Stevivor is a combination of ‘Steve’ and ‘Survivor’, which made more sense back in 2001 when Jeff Probst was up in Queensland. The site started as Steve’s travel blog before transitioning over into video games.

Aside from video games, Steve has interests in hockey and Star Trek, playing the former and helping to cover video games about the latter on TrekMovie.com. By day, Steve works as the communications manager of the peak body representing Victorians as they age.
