Resident Evil 7 demo: Capcom sending mixed messages as fans start to turn away

E3 2016 is winding down, and with it, the hopes that we’ll actually find the mythical “good” ending to the Resident Evil 7 demo.

You can head to our RE7 endings page to keep abreast of the hunt for an ending free of a Welcoming. It, like discussion groups on Reddit and Discord, have been hard at work since the demo was released on Tuesday. It’s like P.T. all over again.

… except that P.T. was solved in a couple days.

The mood of fans is increasingly turning sour, with many slowly accepting that either the ending won’t be found — unless Capcom tells us what to do — or worse yet, than there isn’t another ending.

For its part, Capcom is sending completely mixed signals.

A Community Manager on the game’s German Facebook page is adamant that the game’s lone weapon, an axe, can be used somehow in the attic. The Community Manager also hinted that there’s something more to the photo of the Umbrella helicopter.

Meanwhile, a Capcom representative at E3 told Destructoid that, “it’s better if you find out on your own” when asked if there actually is a highly sought after “non-welcomed” ending. The rep said he’s also not interested in what people think if a subsequent patch adds or fixes functionality in the demo.

Fans are starting to become vocal that the dummy finger, the only in-game object that doesn’t appear to have a use yet, simply doesn’t have a use. Others insist the ending will only become accessible once Capcom patches the demo itself.

One thing is for sure — interest on our Resident Evil 7 endings page peaked a day and a half ago and has been steadily dropping off since. After days of fruitless investigation, do you blame people?

We’ll keep you updated.
