Sony to support the PS3 through 2015

When Sony said that they see this generation of consoles lasting for 10 years, they weren’t kidding. Playstation VP of hardware marketing John Koller recently spoke to Gamespot regarding the company’s plans for the console for the foreseeable future.

“We are increasingly bullish on the PS3’s prospects not only this year but over the next few years,” Koller says. “A lot of great content is coming. And over the next two to three years, the PS3 has got an incredible lineup.” He continues, “We’re going to continue supporting the PS3 for the next few years. Absolutely. And we’re going to continue supporting it not only that long, but as long as there is a development spigot that’s running hot,” Koller says. “Same thing with PS2… it’s kind of stuck around as that old warrior, many years after its launch. But there’s still games launching for it.”

The PS2 launched in 2000 and to this day has a select few games released for it, even after 12 years.

A redesigned “super-slim” version of the PS3 is available from today(28 September 2012) with two variants available. The 500GB model will set you back $398 while the 12GB unit will cost $298. These new PlayStations will be competing with the Xbox 360 and of course the soon to be released Wii U.

Any Steviants without a PS3 considering purchasing this new version? How do you think it compares to the price of the Wii U and Xbox 360? Let us know your thoughts down below.
