Sony announces new (new) slim PS3 [UPDATED]

slimps3

For those times when an original slim PS3 isn’t slim enough, Sony have just announced at the Tokyo Game Show (TGS) that a new new slim PS3 will be available from late September.

Details and official images are scant at the moment, but Sony has stated that the new PS3s will come in both black and white models, and will be 25% smaller and 20% lighter than the original slim PS3. You’ll be able to get the slim slim model with either a 500GB or 12GB (internal flash) hard drive.

[UPDATE] Sony Australia has just confirmed some more details for us. Expect the slim slim PS3 on 27 September (500GB model) for $399.95 AUD/$519.95 NZD, or 18 October (12GB flash memory model) for $299.95 AUD/$399.95 NZD.

Why would anyone buy the 500Gb model for? Why not just purchase the 12Gb one for less, upgrade the HDD for less, and save money? Silly Sony.
