Xbox Series X has two HDMI, two USB-C ports

Update: AMD has confirmed that the images shown via the AMD render are false and do not reflect the Xbox Series X’s actual apperance.

Original story: New images of the Xbox Series X, shown at CES 2020 by AMD, reveal that Microsoft’s next-gen console will come with two HDMI ports, two USB-C ports, a USB 3.0 port, an ethernet port and an S/PDIF digital audio out port.

You can see the images, which also include the Xbox Series X’s power port, above and below (with thanks to Twitter’s Wario 64).

As the ports are unlabelled, it’s unclear what the HDMI ports will be used for — will they replicate functionality of the Xbox One, offering an HDMI in and out, or will they both be HDMI out, designed for multiple TVs/monitors? Time will tell.

The USB-C ports aren’t surprising; Microsoft’s Elite Series 2 wireless controller uses a USB-C port to charge its internal battery so it’s likely the Xbox Series X’s controllers will do the same.

A close up of the front of the Xbox Series X — and its newly-designed controller — looks to show a single USB 3.0 port. That means existing periperals like the external hard drives you use with your Xbox One will likely work as-is on Series X.

The images come at the same time Xbox head Phil Spencer has changed his Twitter profile picture to show off the Xbox Series X’s processor — note the 8K engraved upon it.

What do you make of the Xbox Series X and its ports? We’ve asked Microsoft Australia for comment and will update this story upon reply.
