Xbox Series X is Microsoft’s “plan that can win” against PS5: Phil Spencer

The Xbox Series X is a “plan that can win” the next-gen console war against the PS5, Xbox head Phil Spencer recently told IGN.

In actual fact, it’s the entire Xbox ecosystem that can do it, not just the new console. “We took a holistic view on our platform from CPU to GPU to RAM to throughput velocity architecture, latency, back compat – it took us years to get to this point,” Spencer asserted.

Spencer’s statements come after a PS5 reveal by Sony.

“I felt really good about how [Xbox] Series X lines up.” he said. “When we finally saw the public disclosure, I felt even better about the choices that we made on our platform and I kind of expected that I would.”

Spencer also praised Sony for its upcoming offering.

“I think Mark [Cerny of Sony] and the team did some really good work on the audio processing that they’ve talked about and their SSD technology is impressive, we like that, we saw the work that they did,” Spencer offered.

We compared the Xbox Series X and the PS5 last month, concluding the Series X was the more powerful of the pair. While we don’t have pricing details on either console, it’s likely the Series X will also feature a larger price tag as a result.

“I believe we have a plan that can win,” Spencer concluded. “We’ve got to go execute, but I feel really good about the plan that we’ve put together.”

Both the Xbox Series X and PS5 are expected for a holiday 2020 release.
