Xbox Live down as players self-isolate due to coronavirus

Xbox Live is down, likely due to the demands placed upon it by players staying at home and self-isolating in the face of the coronavirus.

We’re having trouble even pulling up the Xbox Live Service Status page, let alone able to see what is impacted by this downtime. Update 1: The page has loaded, revealing that Xbox Live Core services, Purchase and Content usage and the Xbox website are impacted.

“We understand some users may be having issues accessing support.xbox.com, and are currently looking into it,” Xbox Support confirmed over on Twitter. “Please check back here for updates as we investigate.”

We’ll of course keep you updated as we learn more.

Update 2: The Xbox Live Service Status page says items are still impacted, though Polygon has reported that services are coming back up.

Taking to Twitter earlier in the day, Xbox head Phil Spencer acknolwedged that “Yea, usage is up on almost everything. Thanks go out to all the Ops/IT teams at all the companies that are working hard to keep everything running smoothly with all going on around them.”

Update 3: The status page now confirms that Xbox Live is back online.

In Australia, both Victoria and ACT both have declared states of emergency today due to the coronavirus.
